I’ve been in the renovating game for a while now and even though I love it and I’ve definitely found my calling, I feel as though this chapter of my life may be coming to a close. There are several different reasons why I say this, but first and foremost among them is that I’m in my comfort zone.
I’ve been in the home renovating business for around five years now, and even though it’s wonderfully challenging, I’ve well and truly fallen into a routine. Again, to clarify, I don’t have anything against routines. In fact sometimes they’re kind of nice and they definitely have their place, but recently I’ve begun to feel that restlessness that always lets me know when it’s time to move on.
The thing is, though, I’d love to keep doing something in a similar vein, which is why I’ve been looking more and more into doing some more commercial office design. Melbourne has a ton of fabulous companies that specialise in commercial layouts and fittings. My kind of thing, and I feel like with my background in home renovations, I could feasibly move into this area. If it means I have to take night classes of even a few weekend design courses I’m up for the challenge.
Being a part of the office design scene would give me the opportunity to work with different people in a different setting, but would still allow me to use all the skills I’ve picked up along my way. I know it may all be a pipe dream, but at least I have a dream, and that’s more than a lot of people can say. I’m a hard worker and will give anything a red hot go.
Anyway, I realise that office fitouts in Melbourne are going to be very different from interior design, but I’m ready to face that challenge. I’m excited to start this new chapter in my life. How different can they really be?
