The Director led them into a small office several corridors away. As Redman entered, the Director began to shut the blinds, closing the office off from the rest of the building. A bright, white light hung above them, making the room far too bright. The Director took a chair on the far end of a desk, inviting Jesse and Redman to sit on the other side.
Redman had decided to keep quiet about what he’d seen in the confidential document, about how the people in charge of New Adelaide actually intended to destroy the New Melbourne suburb of Brighton East. It seemed Jesse wasn’t being entirely honest about the extent of their plans. After all, if they were going to destroy property in Brighton East, surely the buyer’s agent for Hawthorn property document detailed similar plans.
“So, tell me what happened,” the Director said. “How did you come to this buyer’s agent and conveyancing building in New Adelaide?”
“Well, it’s as Jesse said,” Redman began. “I was going to meet Gideon for the first time after a friend of mine suggested it. I got to the property he was working on when Jesse came running around the corner. He jumped in my car and told me to drive as fast as I could. We were chased by Lorenzo, Gideon’s guard, but managed to get away. Then we headed here, where I’ve learned all about this massive operation. Do you have a buyer’s advocate for Elsternwick homes, by the way? Because I’d really like to live there if you are having that suburb in New Adelaide.”
The Director nodded. “We might be able to find something for you there, provided you do a few things to help us out.” He turned toward Jesse. “You were right to bring him here. Perhaps if we can get a double agent working for Gideon, it would serve us well.”
Jesse smiled. “My thoughts exactly.”
